18 December, 2015

A farmer has filed a complaint of medical negligence against the owner of a private hospital and a professor of Mandya Institution of Medical Sciences (MIMS) with the police. The complaint relates to the death of complainant’s mother.

Shanthamma of Thorebommanahalli in the district was admitted to the Kaveri Nursing Home in June, 2015. She was under the treatment of Krishna, owner of the hospital, and Chandre Gowda, professor at MIMS, and died at the hospital.

Alleging that Shanthamma died because of negligence on the part of Dr. Krishna and Dr. Gowda, her son N. Kumar filed a complaint on Wednesday, Mandya West police said.

The negligence on their part came to light only after recently obtaining the documents pertaining to the treatment.

The accused doctors had manipulated the case-sheets and other documents at the hospital, he stated in the complaint.

FIR registered

“We have registered a first information report. We will verify the documents, record the statements of the accused, take experts’ opinion from the Health Department and initiate action against the accused, if they are found guilty” a senior Mandya West police official told The Hindu.
