Eye injured in surgery, Negligent doctor hauled up

Over 15 years after an eye injury during surgery, a woman was awarded compensation of Rs 25,000 by the apex consumer court, which pulled up the doctor for his negligence and failure to ensure that the patient did not move while being given an anaesthesia injection in the eye.The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) ruled in favour of Parvatiben Bhimjibhai Rathod, a resident of Bhavnagar in Gujarat, and said that Dr Shivkumar Chandra Shekhar was negligent during the cataract operation on her left eye that caused irreversible damage.
