Medical negligence alleged in youth death

05 January, 2017

Relatives of a 19-year-old youth ransacked a private hospital here on Wednesday alleging that the former died of medical negligence. However, the hospital has claimed that relatives who trespassed into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) did not allow doctors to attend the patient.

Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Sidhapudur, died after getting treatment at Ellen Hospital on Sathy Road on Wednesday morning. Pavithran, a close relative of the deceased said that the latter was brought to the hospital at 5.30 a.m. due to vomiting and uneasiness. He said the patient was given two injections after which he suddenly vomited and moved to ICU.

“As doctors hesitated to inform Kumar’s condition, we went inside the ICU and found the medical team confused what to do. His body was frozen as if he was already dead,” said Pavithran.

Hospital director V. Ramachandran said that the youth who came as outpatient complaining vomiting and chest pain was given the right treatment. “After given treatment, he developed vomiting on the hospital premises and aspirated the same. He was shifted to ICU as he aspirated the food particles. The relatives trespassed into the ICU and obstructed treatment,” said Dr. Ramachandran.

The police have registered a case for unnatural death. The post-mortem of the deceased will be performed on Thursday.
