Hospital fined Rs 6 L for negligence

21 August, 2015

The bench of RD Pandey, Manju Kotaliya and Ranjendra Pargai announced on Thursday. "The doctor concerned and the hospital administration will share the fine amount," the bench stated.

The fine will be paid with 6% interest to the complainant from the date of complaint till the decision came.

The case dates back to 2010 when Aditi Negi, 28, died after giving birth to a son at the private hospital. Her father, Nainital-based Jagdish Bisht later filed a case against the hospital chairman citing medical negligence.

Bisht alleged that doctors and staff were negligent towards his daughter and nurses did not have certified documents to do the job.

A complaint was also forwarded to the chief medical officer of the district and director general, health of the state. Investigations into the case revealed that the hospital lacked basic facilities to deal with emergency cases. The medical facility was also devoid of requisite equipment in the operation theatre, team of experts and trained nursing staff.

The owners of the hospital have a four-bed hospital in Nainital, while bigger hospitals with better facilities are located in Rudrapur and Udham Singh Nagar district.
