VIJAYAWADA: A 20-year-old pregnant woman died due to alleged medical negligence at a private nursing home. The gynaecologist at the institute has been accused of attempting cesarean in the absence of an anesthetist at Nandigama of Krishna district on Monday. Relatives staged a protest in front of the hospital demanding the arrest of the doctor.

According to Nandigama police, Mallela Naga Chaitanya, a native of Nawabpet in Penuganchiprolu mandal, was 9 months pregnant. She was brought to Venkata Sai Nursing home on Sunday night as she suffered severe pain. On Monday morning, doctor M Vijaya Raman attended to her and convinced her relatives that it was not possible for her to have a normal delivery.

But Naga Chaitanya died before delivering the baby while in surgery. Later, Raman said that she died due abnormal dip in blood pressure. But relatives understood that Raman had given sedation himself to Naga Chaitanya without proper examination of her condition. Angered relatives questioned the doctor on why he had performed surgery in the absence of a professional anaesthetist.

Doctor managed to escape from the nursing home. Naga Chaitanya’s husband Venkatrao, a police constable in Kanchikacherla, lodged a complaint and police registered case under section 304 of IPC.
