The district consumer forum recently held a Mulund based doctor and hospital guilty of medical negligence towards one of its patient. The forum, awarded a compensation of Rs50,000 towards the same, and asked Dr Haresh Mangalani, and Hira Mongi Navneet hospital, to pay an additional amount of Rs50,000 towards the rectification surgery. In addition, the duo was asked to pay Rs25,000 towards mental agony and Rs10,000 towards litigation costs.An order was passed by the suburban Mumbai's additional consumer dispute redressal forum, against, Mangalani, who had conducted surgery on Kiran Hegde, a resident of Mulund at Hira Mongi Navneet hospital. DNA has a copy of the order by the forum which states that when the city was stuck in floods in 2005, Hegde had suffered injuries after a wall collapsed on his legs, injuring him severely.

Hegde was immediately taken to the Hira Mongi Navneet hospital. Meanwhile, the doctor who wassupposed to treat Hegde was himself stuck in floods, thus, Dr Mangalani decided to charge and treat Hegde. There was multiple medical complications as Hegde's bones had broken up due to the accident's impact.However, Mangalani went ahead and conducted a surgery on Hegde by using wire to fix his bones.
