KOCHI: Justice Krishna Iyer Movement has requested the state government to initiate measures to expedite inquiry into the death of Shamna Thasneem, the MBBS student of Government Medical College, Ernakulam, who died after an injection was administered on her at the college on July 18.
In a letter to the chief minister, the movement leaders have demanded to give compensation to the family of the deceased.
It has been five weeks since the death of the student. There were allegations that she didn't get proper medical aid. It took around 20 minutes to get a stretcher to shift her to the ICU.
Though the health department had conducted an inquiry into the incident, the report has not been submitted to the government so far, said leaders of the movement.
The police inquiry is also lagging. A medical board to look into the charges of medical negligence is yet to be constituted.
For constituting a medical board, the police will have to send a report to the district medical officer (DMO). But the health department officials said that they haven't got such requests so far.
The chief minister should take urgent steps to address all these issues, the movement leaders said.of the college on Saturday.
