Puri hospital ransacked after youths death

PURI: TENSION ran high on the premises of District Headquarters Hospital in Puri on Wednesday after a group of youths ransacked the OPD alleging death of a youth due to medical negligence.

The deceased is Nabakrushna Jena (26) of Batagaon village under Sadar police limits of the district.

Nabakrushna was suffering from fever and had become unconscious on Wednesday evening following which, his family members rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital.

However, on reaching the hospital, doctors declared Nabakrushna brought dead.

Receiving information, a group of 20 youths from Batagaon village arrived in the hospital and accused the doctors in the OPD of denying timely medical help to the youth. Alleging medical negligence, they ransacked the OPD and verbally abused the doctors on duty. 

The doctor on duty in the OPD, RK Dhalei said the patient was brought dead and refuted the allegation of medical negligence.

One platoon of police force has been deployed in the hospital to avert any law and order situation. No arrest has been made yet.
