Tension prevailed at Kodungaiyur after the family members of M. Manikandan protested alleging medical negligence against a private hospital on Saturday night.

A senior official of the Chennai City Police said Manikandan (26), who had gone to a temple festival nearby, was admitted in the private hospital located on Erukkanchery Road in Kodungaiyur after he developed chest pain. Despite doctors providing medical attention, Manikandan died without responding to treatment.

Alleging medical negligence on the part of the hospital authorities, the family members assembled in large numbers and demanded action against the hospital management.

Tension prevailed as traffic on the road was affected and the police had to use mild force to disperse the crowd.

Preliminary investigation had revealed that the youth suffered from heart ailments, the officer said.

The body was taken to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem and handed over the family.
