4 held for attacking surgeon at health centre

KOCHI: Poochackal police arrested four men for attacking Arookutty community health centre assistant surgeon R V Varun on Tuesday late
night. The arrested have been identified as Gokulraj, 32, Kaathiparambil, Uthaman, 53, Athira Nivas, Paul, 67, Pallikkara House, Sureshkumar, 51, Kaithaparambil. Two are absconding.All the six accused are hailing from Arookutty in Cherthala.


It was on Tuesday late night, Dr R V Varun was allegedly attacked after a patient Gangadaran, 52, Sushamalayam, ward X111, Arookutty
Panchayat died of cardiac arrest. The deceased was the brother of Perumbalam grama panchayat president K S Shibu.

According to Shibu, his brother died at Arookutty community health centre following medical negligence of Dr R V Varun. The doctor did

 

not come to the hospital and his brother died at the hospital following he did not get proper treatment, he said. According to Poochackal sub-inspector G Suresh Kumar, ``six people around 10.30 pm entered into the house of Dr Varun and attacked him on Tuesday late night. So we have registered case against six people for attacking him. Four people were arrested and they were remanded to judicial custody by Cherthala Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Thursday. Two are still at large. A case has also been registered against as many as 200 people for staging blockade and illegally assembling in front of the home of doctor. Of 200, 12 people were arrested and they were released on station bail. ''

 
 

However, the police received a complaint on Thursday from Suma, wife of the deceased, alleging that her husband died owing to medical
 

negligence of the doctor. However, the police refused to register a case against doctor citing the relatives of the deceased were not ready to conduct autopsy of the body and inquest procedures on Wednesday.
