Thiruvananthapuram: A re-postmortem will be conducted on the body of four-month-old girl, Rudra, who had died of alleged medical negligence, on Wednesday as part of the probe into a complaint filed by her parents.
Rudra, daughter of Suresh and Soumya of Kottamukal, died at SAT Hospital here on July 10 while under treatment. She was brought there for treatment for rashes on skin, but he condition grew worse eventually resulting in death.
While her parents alleged medical negligence, the hospital authorities maintained that malnutrition was the cause of death.
Even though the district collector issued an order on Tuesday granting permission to exhume the body and conduct postmortem, it was postponed to Wednesday after the order came very late and it was not possible to conduct the post mortem before 5pm. Besides, the revenue divisional officer, whose presence was needed for the exhumation, was also not available on Tuesday.
Kazhakkoottam Cyber City Assistant Commissioner C Anil Kumar, who is heading the probe, said so far the police had only recorded the statements of the parents after registering the FIR. The course of further probe would be decided only after receiving the post mortem report.
The Youth Commission too had launched a separate probe into the incident after the death of the infant became a controversy. TNN
