Tension prevailed at the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and hospital here following the death of a college girl who came for treatment yesterday. According to police, twenty-year-old Deepa, a final year degree student of the government Bharathidasan women's college was brought to the hospital by her mother yesterday for treatment. Doctors attending on her asked her relatives go get some medicines from outside .Her relatives alleged that as soon as the medicines brought from outside was administered on Deepa, her condition worsened and she was shifted to the ICU where she died late last evening. Alleging medical negligence, her relatives picketed the hospital and later resorted to a road blockade in front of it. Police intervened and held talks with the agitators.
Meanwhile, Deepa's uncle Das climbed atop the hospital building and threatened to commit suicide by jumping down if the administration failed to initiate action against the doctor treated her. Amid tension, fire tenders were summoned and Superintendent of Police (North) Rachana Singh climbed up the building and held talks with Das. She assured action against the doctor if he was found guilty of medical negligence following which Das climbed down and the agitation was called off. The relatives lodged a complaint with the D Nagar police station against the doctor.UNI PAB CS 1348
