KOCHI: The police team probing the death of an MBBS student at Ernakulam Medical College here seized the case sheets as part of the investigation into the charges of medical negligence levelled by the deceased’s family members.
And the medical records were taken into custody from Ernakulam Medical College, where deceased Shamna Tasnim initially underwent treatment for fever, and Rajagiri Hospital where the end came.
According to police officials, the case sheets would be handed over to a medical board which would look into medical aspects of the case.
“The autopsy report is yet to be received. Once the report is received we will approach the Health Department for constituting a medical board. The board will examine the postmortem report and medical sheet to ascertain whether it is a case of medical negligence,” a police official said.
Health Department officials said Health Minister K K Shylaja had taken note of the incident and a high-level team would look into the case.
“Joint Director of Medical Education Dr K Sreekumari, who is a Forensic surgeon herself, will be arriving at Ernakulam Medical College on Monday. She will speak to the hospital authorities and Shamna’s batchmates.
Shamna, 21, a second year MBBS student of Ernakulam Medical College, had been admitted to hospital with fever. Even though she was shifted to a private hospital after her condition worsened, her life could not be saved.
