Woman seeks action against hospital for negligence

05 July, 2016

A woman has sought the immediate intervention by the district administration for initiating action against a private hospital in the city for negligence during a surgery performed on her.

She has also sought a compensation of Rs.15 lakh from the hospital.

The woman, A. Rajalakshmi of Guntur, underwent Caesarean at a private hospital in the city on July 30, 2015. But, at the end of the surgery, a large roll of gauze had been left in the abdomen, leading to complications. She endured severe problems before being treated finally at the Army Hospital in Bangalore where the foreign body was removed on August 19, 2015.

“All my effort in seeking action through the Tamil Nadu Medical Council has not yielded any result. Although a committee led by the Dean of the KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College and Hospital submitted its report, it had not fixed the responsibility on the private hospital doctor,” she told presspersons at the Collector’s Office before submitting a petition to the District Collector K.S. Palanisamy. She sought a compensation of Rs.15 lakh which included medical expenses.
