05 June, 2016

A daily wager couple from Sodiganipalle village of Kuppam mandal have alleged that their new born baby died owing to the negligence of the Kuppam area hospital staff, in the early hours of Saturday,

According to information, Sunitha (20) was admitted to the area hospital at Kuppam for delivery after she developed labour pains in the early hours of Friday, and she gave birth to a baby boy a couple of hours later. The staff informed the couple and their relatives that the baby was hale and hearty.

The infant's father, Satish, said the child suffered from high temperature and convulsions since Friday afternoon, but in spite of repeated appeals to the duty doctors and paramedical staff, they did not turn up to attend to the mother and child in the ward.

He said that an injection was given to the child in the evening. Around midnight, the infant showed signs of breathlessness. Once again, the father made frantic efforts to draw the attention of the paramedical staff on duty, but in vain. The infant died around 4 a.m. on Saturday.

The couple lodged a complaint with District Collector, medical and health authorities, and Chief Minister. When contacted, District Coordinator of Health Services (DCHS) Saralamma said that she had no information about the incident.
