Patients Relatives Attack Pregnant Lady Doctor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Doctors in the state, strongly condemning the attack of a pregnant lady doctor by the relatives of a patient at the Kottarakara Government Hospital, have demanded action against the assailants.

Protesting against the increasing number of attacks on medical professionals by aggrieved relatives of patients, the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has demanded protection of the medical professionals in all the hospitals.

The doctors have come out against such attacks after a lady doctor was attacked by the relatives of pregnant women – Shahida-- who died at the Kottarakara Government hospital, alleged to be because of medical negligence. At the time of death, she was nine month pregnant. According to relatives, Shahida was in good health as she had come to the hospital by foot. They alleged that she died because of the lapse from the part of doctor, who was reportedly in-charge of the operation theatre.

KGMOA president Dr V Madhu and General Secretary Dr A K Raoof  has asked to ensure safety at all hospitals by enforcing Hospital Protection Act, adequate security staff, police aid and CCTV cameras.
