A child specialist doctor of district hospital Doda has been suspended after death of minor girl due to alleged medical negligence in his private clinic in district Doda on Thursday afternoon.
The minor girl, Somira aged about one and half year-old of Ganika in district Doda was taken to clinic by her parents at about 9:30 am as she was suffering from fever. According to her parents, Dr Rattan Singh injected two injections at a time to the minor after that she fell unconscious and died owing to overdose of drug.
However, Chief Medical Officer, Doda Dr Khulbushan has placed the Dr Rattan Singh Manhas under suspension with the immediate effect keeping law and order situation into consideration till pending inquiry.
The doctor brought the minor to district hospital Doda in his own vehicle where the child was given further treatment in the operation theater, later, he declared her dead.
Hundreds of people protested against the doctor and demanded his immediate suspension; they took the body of minor to old-bus stand and triggered massive protest against the administration.
They protest continued for over four hours and called off after the doctor was suspended. The protesters alleged that the girl was died in the clinic and not in the hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Doda, Bhupinder Kumar said, “we have seized his private clinic and initiated an inquiry against the doctor. However, postmortem team of four specialist doctors has been constituted.”
Superintendent of District Hospital, Doda Dr Yakoob Mir said, “We have handed over the body to police after the postmortem.”
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), District President Shab-ul-Haq said, “There are number of incidents before against the said doctor, we want government should take strict action against him. I am requesting Chief Minister, Mehboob Mufti to personally intervene and provide us specialist doctors in Doda.”
