Protest against alleged medical negligence

17 April, 2016

A group of women activists staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Saturday, demanding action against two doctors of city-based Ashok Hospital, alleging them of medical negligence resulting in the death of Sheela Pradeep Banagar (28) last month.

Vinod Prakash Pawale, the brother of the deceased, submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram, alleging that his sister died due to the negligence of the two doctors at the hospital. According to him, his sister was admitted to the hospital after she had gone into labour. However, she died at the hospital on March 11. However, the doctors said that Sheela’s condition was “serious” and advised the family to shift her to KLE Hospital. Sheela was shifted in an ambulance arranged by the family. However, she was declared dead on arrival at KLE Hospital. The memorandum stated that the post-mortem report was not given to the family even five days after the incident. The family received the report only after they approached the Police Commissioner for help. The local police was also not willing to register their complaint, Mr. Pawale stated.

Mr. Jayaram, who accepted the memorandum, said that he would look into the matter.
