DHENKANAL: A woman, Ranjita Mallick (23) of Bhuban block, died after delivering a baby girl in the district on Wednesday. Her family members have alleged medical negligence. Apparently, her family members had to shift her from one hospital to another thrice as she was not provided the much-needed medical attention on time.
Ranjita was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at around 10 am on Tuesday. Although she suffered from high blood pressure, her Haemoglobin was normal, according to her medical reports. Subsequently, a doctor in the hospital asked her to return home.
Although Ranjita and her husband returned, she had to be admitted to Bhuban Hospital again the same day after she complained of uneasiness. She was subsequently admitted to Mathkoragola Hospital due to complications in pregnancy and a few hours later, she delivered a baby girl. As her condition continued to be critical, Ranjita was again shifted to Kamakshyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. Even as she was advised to be administered blood, the hospital staff did not do so. After she suffered from profuse bleeding, Ranjita had to be taken to DHH on Wednesday morning where she succumbed.
Tension ran high in the hospital following her death as Ranjita’s family members alleged medical negligence.
Talking to this paper, CDMO Dr Sangram Kishor Das said he has submitted an inquiry report on the death to Collector Roopa Roshan Sahoo.
